What is FaceFile?
FaceFile is a free personal protection system and crime deterrent. With the use of a cell phone’s camera and our advanced technology, FaceFile was developed to protect individuals from potentially threatening persons and situations. It can also be used to document unfamiliar people and places as a precautionary measure.
-
How do I send a picture from my phone?
Sign up for our service by entering some basic information. Then enter the contact information of friends, family or co-workers you want alerted if you feel like you are at risk. When you are finished completing this information, FaceFile will send you a message with your personal account information to store in your mobile phone.
-
How does FaceFile work?
FaceFile simply involves the use of a cell phone’s camera to take pictures when people feel at risk or if they’re unsure of whom they’re with or the place they’re at. These images are sent from the person’s cell phone to FaceFile where they are dated, time stamped, and stored in his/her private Personal Security Journal (PSJ).
FaceFile immediately sends instant safety alerts to the person’s friends and family network to notify them that the sender has filed a new photo and that he/she might be in a threatening situation, in the company of strangers, or perhaps in an unfamiliar place.
Friends and family who have been chosen by the sender to receive alerts make up the sender’s Personal Protection Network (PPN). People listed in the PPN are encouraged to check in with the sender whenever they receive alerts from FaceFile.
-
How are the people in my PPN alerted?
FaceFile immediately sends an alert to your PPN via email or text message. When you sign up for FaceFile, you and the people in your PPN will designate how they would like the alerts to be delivered to them. We offer the free plan that sends email alerts to your network, or, you can chose the paid plan that allows you to have 15 text alerts sent to your PPN in addition to email alerts. FaceFile charges you, not your network, a minimal monthly texting fee for any additional text messages over the allotted 15 per month.
If your preference is to have alerts sent by text message to your network, then FaceFile emails your friends and family network asking them to enter their cell phone numbers and opt into the text alerts program. When they text back the code to accept, they will receive your FaceFile alerts via text message in addition to email alerts. You should advise your PPN to check their text messaging plans with their cell phone carriers so as not to induce extra costs for them when they receive FaceFile alerts.
-
Is there a limit to the number of people that I can include in my PPN?
You can add up to nine people in your Personal Protection Network. We encourage you to include friends and family that you feel comfortable and confident in receiving your alerts. The tenth member of your PPN is Law Enforcement, which is part of the agreement when you sign up for our service. If someone in your PPN ever initiates police action or files a missing persons report, FaceFile will work with Law Enforcement and after verification of the police or Law Enforcement authority involved in the matter, FaceFile will grant the authorities temporary access to your FaceFile account.
-
What do I need to make FaceFile work?
All you need is a cell phone with a camera and the ability to send text messages (SMS – Short Message Service) and pictures (MMS – Multimedia Message Service). Phones with email capabilities also work with FaceFile. If you are not certain of your cell phone’s capabilities, check with your wireless carrier to confirm or add these features.
-
Do I need a specific cell phone carrier to use FaceFile?
No. FaceFile is compatible with all cell phone carriers.
-
Do I need email capabilities on my cell phone to make FaceFile work?
No, it is not necessary for you to be able to email from your cell phone in order to use FaceFile. You need to be able to send pictures and text message from your phone, that’s all.
-
Do the people in my PPN need email?
Yes, because all FaceFile alerts are sent to your network through email.
-
Can alerts be sent to my PPN through text messages?
Yes, you can have text message alerts sent to your PPN if you pay a minimal monthly fee for our Premium Package. Your network of friends and family will always receive email alerts, but texting alerts to their cell phones is also an option.
-
Can I send videos to FaceFile instead of a picture?
Yes, you can send videos to FaceFile.
-
What is the most efficient way to send pictures to FaceFile?
We recommend that you program FaceFile in your cell phone’s contact list so that it would be easily accessed. For instance, you can enter FaceFile as "AAA" in your address book so that it would be the first contact listed.
-
Is FaceFile like a social network?
No. FaceFile is a private network where your images are stored in your Personal Security Journal (PSJ). Once you send pictures and messages to FaceFile, only you can view them.
The one exception is if FaceFile grants temporary access to Law Enforcement authorities in the event that a missing persons or police report needs to be created. This would occur if someone in your PPN notifies the authorities. FaceFile verifies the information with Law Enforcement and then they are granted access to your account.
-
I understand that FaceFile allows me the opportunity to document people and places that are unfamiliar to me. I also realize that I should use FaceFile when I’m feeling at risk. What if I feel more at risk trying to take a photo?
If you find yourself in a life-threatening situation, do not take the time to snap a picture. Use common sense and get yourself to a safe place, then be sure to contact your local emergency services. FaceFile is not meant to jeopardize your life, it is a service that should be used as an extra safety measure, and to prevent and deter crime.
-
How long are my photos and entries stored in FaceFile?
Every FaceFile account has an ample amount of space to store your pictures indefinitely. If you exceed the amount of storage space offered in our free plan, FaceFile’s technology automatically deletes the oldest picture in your file to allow for the most recent photo to be uploaded.
-
Can I delete pictures in my account if I realize they’re not of a threatening person or place?
Yes. FaceFile allows you the ability to manage your private Personal Security Journal account by offering you the option to delete pictures that you’ve filed but no longer consider a possible threat. You are able to delete, edit, and download information in your account.
-
How do I label the photos I send to FaceFile?
If you are in a non-emergency situation, you should be able to type the name(s) of the person or people photographed in the subject line when you send the picture to FaceFile. If you are in a threatening situation and time does not allow for anything but snapping the photo and sending it to FaceFile, you will have the opportunity to edit or add this info at a later time. Keep in mind that FaceFile will automatically time stamp and date the photo when it is received.
-
How much does FaceFile cost?
The standard FaceFile plan is a free service. Because advertisers support our free service, you will occasionally receive information from them. The free service provides you with a 10 mg file that can hold an average of 40 – 60 pictures in your account.
If the FaceFile member opts for the account plan that allows for text message alerts to be sent to their PPN, then a minimal charge of $3.99 per month would be incurred. If texting is the choice of preference, a $39.90 a year discount package can be purchased. This offers the user 15 free text message alerts to your PPN per month. If additional alerts were sent during the month, your credit card would only be charged a nickel per additional alert.
We also offer a premium paid account plan, ideal for people who encounter many strangers on a day-to-day basis – real estate agents, on-site service technicians, restaurant delivery persons – who would need an abundant amount of storage space to use FaceFile as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety. FaceFile offers a premium plan with 200 mg of storage space that can hold up to 800 photos. This costs $3.99 per month.
-
If I chose texting to be my method of delivery for my alerts to be sent to my PPN, but then I don’t have any activity for that month, do I still have to pay the monthly fee?
Yes, because the $3.99 monthly fee that you pay is for the size of your file. This plan allows for 15 free text messages a month for your safety alerts, regardless of whether you use them or not.
-
What are the different types of FaceFile accounts?
We offer three plans: Individual, Family, and Business:
The Individual Plan is an account for a single user. FaceFile notifies the contacts in the user’s Personal Protection Network (PPN) when new pictures are uploaded.
The Young Family Plan is similar to the Individual Plan, but offers four FaceFile accounts under one plan. The primary account holder has a 200 mg file and the three additional account files are 200 mg each. If a family member uploads a picture, FaceFile will send an alert to the contacts in that member’s PPN as well as to all members of the family plan.
The Business Plan allows employers to give their employees extra safety measures by providing them with individual plans. FaceFile offers discounted rates for small, medium and large companies. It costs $3.99 per month, per employee. Each individual receives a 200 mg private Personal Security Journal file.
